Recognition of Foreign Higher Education Documents for the Purpose of Further Education

The recognition of foreign higher education document for the purpose of further education is a procedure which grants the document holder the right to continue education at the University of Belgrade.

The holder of a foreign higher education document can apply for enrollment in study program organized by the University of Belgrade with a decision on recognition of a foreign higher education document for the purpose of further education at the University of Belgrade, or with a confirmation of the initiated procedure of recognition of the higher education document for the purpose of further education at the University of Belgrade.

There are two procedures/purposes:

1. The procedure of recognition of documents for enrolment on the next level of studies

For the enrollment on the second level of studies – master academic, professional master, professional specialization
The procedure is initiated by submitting next documents to the address: The University of Belgrade, 1 Studentski trg, Belgrade, via post office or in person at Office No.1 (Monday-Friday 8:30-16:00):

  • two copies of request for recognition of foreign higher education document
  • two photocopies of a diploma and diploma supplement (list of exams passed) certified by the public notary in the Republic of Serbia
  • two copies of translation of a diploma and diploma supplement (list of exams passed) into the Serbian language, certified by an authorized court interpreter of the Republic of Serbia;
  • proof of payment of the procedure fee;
  • proof of payment of the republic administrative fee;
  • document issued by the authorized body on name and/or surname change for persons who have changed their name and/or surname.

For the enrollment on the specialist or doctoral academic studies
The procedure is initiated by submitting next documents to the address: The University of Belgrade, 1 Studentski trg, Belgrade, via post office or in person at Office No.1 (Monday-Friday 8:30-16:00):

  • two copies of request for recognition of foreign higher education document
  • two photocopies of a bachelor and master diploma and diploma supplement (list of exams passed) certified by the public notary in the Republic of Serbia
  • two copies of translation of a bachelor and master diploma and diploma supplement (list of exams passed) into the Serbian language, certified by an authorized court interpreter of the Republic of Serbia;
  • proof of payment of the procedure fee;
  • proof of payment of the republic administrative fee;
  • document issued by the authorized body on name and/or surname change for persons who have changed their name and/or surname.

NOTE: The deadline for submitting the request for enrollment in 2024/2025 school year
The procedure for the recognition of a foreign higher education document for the purpose of enrollment at the next level of higher education must be started no later than fifteen days before the deadline for enrollment in the 2024/2025 school year, set by the Faculty. Foreign documents submitted after these deadlines allow applying for enrollment only in the next school year.

2. The procedure of recognition of documents for enrolment on the same level of studies

For the enrollment on the bachelor academic / integrated bachelor and master academic studies, after completing bachelor academic studies
The procedure is initiated by submitting next documents to the address: The University of Belgrade, 1 Studentski trg, Belgrade, via post office or in person at Office No.1 (Monday-Friday 8:30-16:00):

  • two copies of request for recognition of foreign higher education document
  • two photocopies of a diploma and diploma supplement (list of exams passed) certified by the public notary in the Republic of Serbia
  • two copies of translation of a diploma and diploma supplement (list of exams passed) into the Serbian language, certified by an authorized court interpreter of the Republic of Serbia;
  • proof of payment of the procedure fee;
  • proof of payment of the republic administrative fee;
  • document issued by the authorized body on name and/or surname change for persons who have changed their name and/or surname.

NOTE: The deadline for submitting the request for enrollment in 2024/2025 school year
The procedure for the recognition of a foreign higher education document of bachelor academic studies for the purpose of enrollment at the same level of higher education (bachelor or integrated bachelor and master academic studies) must be started no later than fifteen days before the deadline for enrollment in the 2024/2025 school year, set by the Faculty. Foreign documents submitted after these deadlines allow applying for enrollment only in the next school year.

For the enrollment on the 1st or 3rd level of academic studies after completing a part of study program
The procedure is initiated by submitting next documents to the address: The University of Belgrade, 1 Studentski trg, Belgrade, via post office or in person at Office No.1 (Monday-Friday 8:30-16:00):

  • two copies of the request for recognition of foreign higher education document
  • two photocopies of the certificate on completed part of a study program (transcript of records) certified by the public notary in the Republic of Serbia;
  • two copies of translation of this document into the Serbian language, certified by an authorized court interpreter of the Republic of Serbia;
  • two photocopies of the short content of the completed part of the study program, and two copies of translation of this document into the Serbian language, certified by an authorized court interpreter of the Republic of Serbia;
  • complete information on the study program curriculum in electronic or printed form;
  • proof of payment of the procedure fee;
  • proof of payment of the republic administrative fee;
  • document issued by the authorized body on name and/or surname change for persons who have changed their name and/or surname.

NOTE: The deadline for submitting the request for enrollment in 2024/2025 school year
The procedure for the recognition of a foreign document on completed part of a study program for the purpose of continuation of the same level of higher education (bachelor academic, integrated academic or doctoral studies) must be started no later than June 1, 2024.

Payment instructions

Fee for the recognition of a foreign higher education document for the purpose of further education is 25,000 RSD (instructions for payment in dinars / instructions for payment in euros ).

Republic administrative fee for academic recognition of foreign higher education documents is 13.210 RSD (thirteen thousand two hundred ten dinars) - (Payment instructions).

Additional information

During the procedure, a candidate may also be asked to submit other documents relevant for recognition procedure.

If the the diploma has not been issued at the time of initiating the procedure, candidate may submit a certificate on graduation or other document as a proof of having successfully completed a higher education program, which is of temporary character and may serve to determine its holder’s rights until the diploma has been issued. The candidate is obligated to submit to the University two certified photocopies and translations of the diploma, along with the original for inspection, by the time the procedure is completed.
