International cooperation between Germany and the Republic of Serbia began immediately after the country’s transition to democracy in 2000. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH opened its office in Belgrade the same year. There is currently around 120 national and more than 20 international staff working for GIZ in Serbia. In addition, 14 integrated experts are deployed in Serbian partner institutions.

As a provider of international cooperation services for sustainable development and international education work, GIZ is dedicated to building a future worth living around the world.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, GIZ supports Serbia in moving towards integration into the EU, improving its economic performance and consolidating democratic structures. GIZ is engaged in the following priority areas:
Trade, climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable urban mobility, vocational training adapted to labour market needs, fund management, development partnerships with the private sector, stakeholder dialogues – GIZ is offering clients a wide range of services, methodologies and approaches.
